I'm addic- I'm addicted to you.

So I JUST got the Angry Birds app yesterday for my Android phone, and I finally understand where all the hype is coming from. It's just simply one of those addicting, mindless games that you can find yourself playing for hours if there is nothing better to do. Mind you, I had an exam to study for, so I played this and a couple of other Android App games on my study breaks.

I'm glad these games a free. I don't think I would have them otherwise. Oh, the life of a poor college student. :p

What in the world was going on with the weather today, East Lansing?

It wasn't beautiful this morning when I left for class at 9AM, but it was nice and warm with a cool humidity that means it's starting to become Spring. But over the course of the day, the temperature dropped about 12 degrees and it got super windy outside! Why couldn't the rain have just stayed? It's much better than the snow and hail we got yesterday morning..

I absolutely love the smell of rain, though, and the sound of birds chirping in the early hours of the morning. It  was an excellent way to wake up today. Thunderstorm watching is also one of my all-time favorite activities, so I hope we get a good one soon!

Sometimes East Lansing seems to have this bubble around it that resists intense weather, like a huge storm we were supposed to get last Spring or the snow storm from just a few months ago..

Friday marked the end of the campus wide event "Humans vs. Zombies" at Michigan State.

I'm torn: on one hand, I will be getting a significant amount of time back that will be devoted to doing important things like school work and picking up shifts at the bakery, both good considering it is close to the end of the semester, but, it also means I will not have any specific reason to run around campus getting to know a bunch of new people.

I met so many new people through this game, whether they lived on or off campus, in my complex or across campus. Many of them are similar to me, too. This brought a bunch of people from a school of 47,000 and reminded them that sometimes it's okay to be 7 years old again by playing a giant game of tag with nerf guns. What could be a better stress relief than that?

Being only the second time MSU has done this, the amount of people participating nearly doubled from about 400 in the first game to 750 in the second. The Mods, students who regulated the missions and rules, only expect this number to increase exponentially, and I believe it. Every time I walked around outside with an orange bandana around my head, someone walking by would ask me what in the world I was doing or even if they could join the game.

Sometimes I just don't believe that college can be THIS fun. :] Now I cannot wait for the next game this Fall!

(This is my 51st post! The only reason I find this mildly exciting is because 51 is my favorite number due to my favorite hockey player.. haha)

Anyway, well, today I made a rather spontaneous decision to go see comedian Nick Swardson (for free!) at the Wharton Center. I was actually taking a break from homework by participating in the Humans vs. Zombies mission that was going on earlier tonight, but my friend called me and asked me if I wanted to go.  I had forgotten that the performance was tonight, and the fact that she offered me a free ticket helped me make my decision lickity-split (but seriously, who has used the term 'lickity-split' in the past fifteen years..?)

Conveniently enough, I had a single ticket in the far back rows, but another set of friends were sitting in one of the first eight rows on the end with an open seat available, so I was able to get super close seats, too! Apparently today was just my lucky day! Too bad I didn't have my camera on me..

I also wish my phone messaging would work! I'm currently attempting to upload a photo of Nick Swardson from the performance, but my phone is not allowing me too... I will get back to this.

Oh! And here's a HvZ (Humans vs. Zombies) update for you! With 755 people playing, 320 are now part of the horde of zombies, and 435 remain human. The coolest part about this is that we started with a toal of 7 "original zombies".. progress! According to my statistician friend, we had a 1167% increase of zombies on the first day!

Things can only look up from here! :]

OM NOM BRAINS.

Today was probably my favorite day of the semester. It was colder than normal, nasty icy wintry mix weather, I had an exam in one of my least favorite classes..

..and I got to roam around campus infecting humans and munching on their brains.

For those of you who have absolutely no idea what I mean, it's not that difficult: twice this year MSU has hosted an event for its students called "Humans vs. Zombies," which is essentially just a giant game of tag. It lasts for a week or so and can online be played outside of buildings and on school grounds. The idea behind the game is fairly simple: 'humans' must protect themselves and other humans from being infected by 'zombies' and turning into one of those creatures themselves. 'Zombies' run around campus tagging humans to add to their horde and thereby 'feasting on their brains.' Overall, the goal for each team is to have the most members by the end of the event. There's so much strategy, and running, and nerf gun usage involved, too. To read more of the rules or if you're interested in playing at a later date, click here!

The BEST part about today though was the fact that I was one of seven people chosen to be an 'Original Zombie." This meant that I was allowed to impersonate a human and lure them into traps made by the zombie horde or just infect them myself. Today, I racked up a total of 9 'kills' (turning a human into a zombie) to add to the horde, many of which were friends of mine or people I was able to deceive into thinking I was human. It was just TOO much fun, all day long. :]

I was just informed today that there are only six weeks left of the semester.

That means six more Monday recitations (five if you include today.)

Twelve more Engineering Labs.

Eighteen more Linear Algebra lectures.

And a whole lot of exams and projects.

Why is time flying by so fast?! I feel like it was January just yesterday (mind you, I'm very pleased that it isn't; I hate the snow, and Spring is my favorite season of the year.) Speaking of which! Happy Spring to everyone! As of yesterday! :]

And coincidentally speaking about yesterday, I hope everyone got the chance to see the "Super Moon of 2011."

According to many astrologers, yesterday was the closest the moon was to the Earth in 25 years, and it won't happen again until 2029. That is just too cool to me. I've always been fascinated with space and had seriously considered majoring in Astrophysics at one point in my life. 

For those of you that understand this nerd reference, this is the first thing I thought of when I heard of this Super Moon:

Looks like I better get back to my homework now that the Red Wings have lost to the Penguins in overtime. :[

Welcome back everyone!

I think I was the ONLY person happy to be back at school yesterday. Or at least awake. I didn't even go to bed exceptionally early that night, but I woke up completely awake and ready for class. It was nice because I was able to stay conscious and I could pay attention in all four of my classes! I think one of the reasons I was so ready to come back to school was because I have so many exams coming up that I would just love to get over with. :/

But before all my studying, here's quick recount of my spring break for you:

First of all, Pokemon Black was released on the Sunday at the beginning of break, so I was playing that at any free point in my week. (Yeah, I'm kind of a nerd; I play video games and like Pokemon still..). I also had four subjects of homework, three of which I was able to accomplish during the week which I was pretty proud of. :] I didn't do TOO much else though. I got to hang out with my best friend from home and discuss our vacation plans for this summer (I'm going to Disney World for the first time!) and I enjoyed my family's company when they weren't at work or school. On Friday though, I did get to go to the Red Wings vs. Oilers game at Joe Louis, which was a BLAST! My camera took excellent photos also, even though it was through plexiglass or zoomed in and pixilated.

Other than that, not much else happened. It was very relaxing though, and the break helped with all the stress from exams and projects and homework from the previous weeks. I hope everyone else's breaks were wonderful as well!

Now it's back to the old grind.

I imagine everyone has heard about the devastating events that happened in Japan early this morning..

It is absolutely unreal, and it looks like it came straight out of an apocalypse movie.

I'm praying for the all of the people of Japan, and I ask that you do too.

I am giving up on making passes.

Being a Christian I am not required, but encouraged to "give up" something I would normally enjoy, for Lent. Over the years I have refrained from doing certain things like not watching TV or playing computer games or drinking pop. This year I am going to do something a little bit different:

1. I did this last year, but I feel like it would be a good idea again: I am giving up bakery related foods. This includes bagels, desserts, and breads that are all made at the MSU Bakery. Why so specific? Because I work there, and constantly being around the food has made my appetite grown a little bit, so by giving it up, I'm not tempted to eat that cookie after dinner or I can grab fruit for breakfast instead of a bagel.

2. Nutella is one of my favorite spreads for snacks on rice cakes and pretzels, so this can be included with the above reasons.

3. Expletives. (Almost) every adult uses them, and sometimes they're necessary to get your point across, but most often they are used excessively and with no purpose. I heard that if you wear a rubber band around your wrist and snap it every time you accidentally slip, it conditions you to stop. I am making an exception here though, for hockey (because it's such an aggressive sport!) and lyrics (because changing them is just no fun!)

4. Lastly, and as I told my boyfriend, I'm going to give up "being lazy." I want to be able to run a 5k by the end of the semester and train more for quidditch. So no more elevators and lots more walking. :]

This does seem like a lot, but I think I will feel better about myself after 40 days. :]

Need to get me sun and break up all my complications and turn it into love.

SPRING BREAK '11!

Guess what kind of crazy shenanigans I have planned!?

Nothing actually. Except four subjects worth of homework. Yes, I am one of the unfortunate ones who's professors insist on giving mountains of work to do over week long breaks. So, I suppose it is a good thing that I do not have any specific time consuming plans.

So far, though, I know of two things: I'm getting my hair cut tomorrow (because it's so freaking long!) and I'm also going to the Red Wings vs. Oilers game next Friday! Both of which I am rather excited for. I do have a list of things I wish to accomplish over the next ten days, but we'll see how far that gets.

I think I am going to go read a book, because I haven't done that in a while. Goodnight!

Ps. I hope it gets warmer and melts all the snow over the next week! That would be absolutely wondrous. <3
